At around 9:50 AM a shooter attacked a Canadian Soldier on guard at the National War Memorial, and then ran the about 500 meters up to the central block of Parliament. He was then surrounded, shot and killed. Ironically or by coincidence, Parliament was going to vote on a bill to expand anti terror legislation a few hours later.

Authorities, while still present in the down-town core, are now operating under the assumption that their was only one shooter. This contradicts earlier reports of three shooters.

The mall said to be attacked, the Rideau Center, was never attacked. The exchange of gunfire confused many in the hotels nearby into believing the shooting was coming from the mall. This being said, the mall was put on lock-down being only a few hundred meters from Parliament.

The Canadian Soldier killed was from Hamilton and was a reservist. It saddens me to say a Canadian soldier or member of any of our allied armed forces killed, but this is particularly despicable. This is equal to the attacks in London in terms of its barbarity.

We do not know the shooter or his motivations. A part of me doesn't want to know, so that he'll be forgotten alongside whatever twisted message he supposedly had.

Just though I'd clear that all up for you.

We have to be careful though. If the parliament building gets locked down from the public, bad things could happen. We could be on the verge of ending up under martial law. I mean, most people didn't even know we had a secret service until the former department head came out and spoke in the meeting. Anyway, just some incoherent, disconnected thoughts of my brain at 2 in the morning
