Song of the day [link]

Look at you, a kid from some upper middle class suburb in Ottawa. You spent your entire life believing "If I try really hard, I can make a difference in this world!" Wouldn't be surprised if you were also one of those kids who thought if they made sure to pray every night, really hard, that god might one day listen to you and solve world hunger, and maybe cure AIDS and Cancer while he was at it! I hope you learn fast kid, or an Indonesian sniper is going to put a bullet through that idealistic little head of yours pretty god damn fast.

Following the collapse of the Peoples Republic of China in 2054 at the end of WW3, East and Southeast Asia saw a major power vacuum. Australia, Indonesia and Japan fought to fill the void, sometimes literally clashing.

The Indonesians had a particularly bad human rights record, which entered the international eye for the first time when they moved in to annex Brunei and Malaysia in 2060.

Massive protests in Australia forced the government to turn to OADC (Oceania and the America's Defense Command) for support. To no ones surprise, the US kept its "Fortress America" attitude, and while the government agreed to support the Australians from a logistical perspective, no US troops would be sent. Cuba and Brazil, already dealing with local threats, refused. Not wanting to raise tensions with an immediate threat, the Philippines refused. After a few months of lobbying, only Canada and New Zealand agreed to take part in any direct action. A task force consisting of 500 troops from each country (not including naval and air components) was assembled.

The Canadian government pushed to hold off the attack, and attempted to negotiate with officials in Jakarta. The 6 month period proved pointless, but it gave the Task Force time to prepare, and made sure that the move wasn't simply reactionary and was truly intended.

In this pic we have Canadian Corporal Bronson Higgins (a character that I plan to feature in a summer project I'm working on around the crisis) moving from cover after having saved a young local Muslim Girl in a small battle over a village. He's making sure the area is clear for her to move on.

Yeah, I just learned about East Timor if you are wondering :/ This was inspired be a supposed JTF2's account of events during the genocide there... I do hope one day to redo this digitally, because it's pretty darn good in my humble opinion.

I find it kind of amusing that you know Australia's capital city but you hadn't heard of the conflict in East Timor...but ya, that was some tense shit there.
